State GOP Launches Campaign Highlighting Rhode Island's Flaws

The State Republican Party has launched a new campaign designed to call attention to numerous national rankings systems that have placed Rhode Island beyond virtually every other state when it comes to economy.

The initiative, called "Rhode Island Ranked Last,” is led by the same group who earlier in the year created the “Rhode Island Republican Strike Force,” which is an effort to elect GOP candidates to the General Assembly.

"Not only does our state rank last for business, we are in the top 3 for unemployment and even score a D- in transparency,” said GOP operative Michael Napolitano, who is leading the campaign. “There is an urgent need to educate the voter on just how serious things have become here so that they make an informed decision when they vote in November."

Napolitano said the campaign is part of an effort to educate voters on the problems he claims Democrats have caused the Ocean State for the past several decades. During the last General Assembly session, only 17 lawmakers of the 113-member legislature were members of the Republican Party.

In addition to the Democratic super majority on Smith, the campaign points to the fact that all four members of the state’s Congressional delegation are currently Democrats and questions why taxes increased last year.

Napolitano said "Rhode Island Ranked Last" will consist of a social media campaign as well as a website, signage and other forms of media citing specific areas that the state is failing in .

"The Democrats continue to have their head in the sand while our citizens are struggling and people are leaving our state,” he said. “Their party got us here and our voters need to know just how bad it is. This is yet another tool for our Republican candidates in addition to the Strike Force and the campaign funding they have received."
