Governor’s Chief of Staff’s Husband Attacks Mattiello — “Time for Term Limits”

Governor Gina Raimondo’s Chief of Staff’s husband took to social media to attack Speaker of the House Nick Mattiello on Wednesday.

Jim DeRentis, a prominent realtor on the East Side of Providence who is the husband of top Raimondo staffer Brett Smiley, shared a newspaper article on Facebook that was highly critical of Mattiello’s handling of the Pawtucket Red Sox.

A column in the Providence Journal by Mark Patinkin blames Mattiello for the loss of the team to Worcester.

DeRentis wrote under the photo of Mattiello “Soo, Rhode Island, time for term limits and a line-item veto.”

Neither Mattiello’s or Raimondo's office responded to requests for comment.

This is just the latest incident in the battles between Raimondo and Mattiello's offices.
