Having Said That by John DePetro
- Teachers at Hope high school encouraging the students to march out of class over proposed changes is the latest example of the teachers union trying to protect teachers job, as opposed to improving education. Hope High and several other schools need a desperate change, yet the union fights Education Commissioner Deborah Gist all the way.
- Congrats to Rhode Island legend Arlene Violet who spoke up at the Rhode Island radio hall of Fame dinner last week, as the event was being ruined by a political hack. The video of her “speech” is online, and you can tell by the crowd she spoke for them as well.
- 800 people have applied for 84 possible jobs at Central Falls high school. I think they should fire the teachers at every failing school and let the teachers reapply for their jobs.
- If ‘Brotherhood’ had filmed about politics in North Providence, the show would still be on TV and would be Number 1.
- Looks like ‘American Idol’ has jumped the shark. Where will it be without Simon?
- Last week was another example how labor a control the state Senate and President Paiva Weed knows it. The allegations regarding North Providence and the Senate are serious, yet President Weed sounded like Sgt. Shultz.
- The Bruins collapsed worse than the Rhode Island roads during the flood.
- The latest idea of saving money is to turnout the lights on the Rhode Island roads at night. We have the worst roads in the nation, highest elderly population per capita and the highest percentage of drunk drivers. How do you think it will work with no lights on the roads at night?
- To save money for next year, the General assembly wants to get rid of street lights and have people walk around carrying candles.
- Rhode Island is on the verge of being considered a third world nation.
- Patrick Kennedy told NBC 10 that it is not the business of the voters if he wants to drink on his "personal time." He thinks it is OK to have six vodka shots after leaving a program on substance abuse, as long as it is on his “personal time”?
- People who summer on Block Island for July and August should not decide or have a say about a proposed wind farm. We cannot continue to rely on oil from thugs in the Middle East. Governor Carcieri deserves credit for leading the way on this issue.
- Having said that, nothing like springtime indictments here in Rhode Island!
