King Says Raimondo Will Lead RI Into ‘Bankruptcy’

Republican candidate for General Treasurer Kerry King slammed his Democratic opponent, Gina Raimondo, yesterday for how much money she was raising from out-of-state donors—hours before she actually released her second-quarter finance report.

King said Raimondo had raised over $500,000 and that about 40 percent of her money came from Wall Street contributors and left-wing political organizations, like the pro-choice group EMILY’s List.

“Why are the Wall Street money barons who helped create the Great Depression supporting a local candidate for a state office?” King said. “Are there outside forces trying to help Ms. Raimondo buy the Treasurers office? I think Ms. Raimondo owes taxpayers an explanation.”

“I am far more experienced than my opponent and the only candidate with a real plan to save the current pension system, to reduce taxes and be willing to stand up to those public union bosses and Democratic politicians who have put us in such bad shape. I will clean up our financial mess,” King added. “I fear that Ms. Raimondo with little experience and typical liberal tax and spend policies will lead our great state into bankruptcy.”

The Raimondo campaign told GoLocalProv last night that it was preparing a response, but its statement was not available in time for publication.
