I have been knocking on doors since May and the one issue I continue to hear is ethics!  Voters are tired of the lack of transparency and unethical behavior of some elected officials.   From 38 Studios to legislative grants, ethics is a big issue for Rhode Island voters.  Voters want elected officials they can count on for honesty, integrity and transparency.  They are fed up with public corruption!

2.     What do we need to do to improve Rhode Island’s economy?

In order to improve the economy, we need to create a better business climate to attract and retain businesses… which will create jobs!   We need less taxes and less red tape for businesses.

3.    What is the greatest challenge facing Rhode Island as a state?

I believe the greatest challenge we face as a state is changing the negative mindset of our citizens.  The negative mindset has been created by public corruption, lack of transparency and botched initiatives. We need to be open to new, innovative ideas.   We can’t continue to do things the same way and expect different results.  We need to explore best practices of other states that make sense for us here in Rhode Island.  Once we see some successful initiatives, people will become more open to new, innovative ideas.  It can no longer be business as usual.

4.    Why are you running for office?

I am running for office to make a difference in our state!  Too often, people sit back and wait for other people to do it. I decided to step up!  After serving on many  boards and committees as a volunteer and then leaving the for-profit world for the non-profit world, this seemed to be the natural progression in my public service work.

5.    Who is your inspiration?

There are two people who have been a great inspiration to me.   My dad, former Deputy Chief of the Cranston Fire Department, and my nephew, Sean, who is a junior at the United States Naval Academy.   My dad was a public servant who loved serving the City of Cranston until job related cancer forced his retirement.  He loved being a firefighter and loved the department. My nephew was born shortly after my dad’s diagnosis and followed my dad’s footsteps with public service in the military.  I have watched his life develop into a life of great accomplishments.  Two amazing men who accomplished amazing things. They inspire me every day!
