Hearing from thousands of constituents over these last few months, improving our economy and ensuring great schools continue to be top issues. Residents of Cumberland and Lincoln work hard every day and when their day is over they want to come home to a community that supports them and their families. That also means they want safe roads, low taxes, great schools, recreational fields and a strong overall community.

2.  What do we need to do to improve Rhode Island's economy?

Making it easier to do business has been a major focus while at the same time positioning our state for new industry. In just the last few years we have cut taxes making our corporate tax the lowest in New England, reforming our Unemployment Insurance system saving businesses $30 million this year, eliminating business taxes on energy and many other important changes to make RI competitive. We need to continue this work while investing in key areas like education and infrastructure to reposition our economy to be successful in this new economy. We must develop new industries in the fields of science, engineering, health care, and renewable energy to drive the high wage jobs of the future in Rhode Island.

3.  What is the greatest challenge facing Rhode Island as a state?

Making the improvements in performance of our education system from K to college is absolutely critical and perhaps the greatest challenge we will face. We need our students to be prepared for the careers most in demand. If we have the talent, companies and larger industries will seek out Rhode Island. Our neighbors to the north in Massachusetts have done this well but with such saturation costs such as real estate and salaries are skyrocketing there. This creates a big opportunity for Rhode Island. If we can have top performing schools and a good business climate our ability to attract new companies and jobs while raising wages for everyone will be limitless.

4.  Why are you running for office? What makes you uniquely qualified?

As a millennial Rhode Islander, I plan to be living in our state for decades to come and have a vested interested in our future. A few years ago when I ran for the Senate I talked about how I was tired of making excuses and being ok with Rhode Island not being first. We must demand better and we have the ability to be great. My background that I bring from serving on a local school committee, to serving in the Senate for the last few years and from a career in the private sector puts me in a great position. Working together at all levels of government and with our business community we can improve Rhode Island making it a great state to live in and do business. We just need to demand it.

5.  Who is your inspiration?

My constituents are who inspires me to fight for the future of our state. The countless stories I have heard about seniors working to make it on a fixed income, to families balancing demanding jobs while making sure their kids are at an early morning soccer practice, to business owners just starting out or looking to grow. Each of their stories makes me think of what we can we do in state government to help and support them. Getting things done for them gives me the energy and inspiration to keep pushing for more.
