Correcting the inefficiency and waste in state government.  Every week there is a new state agency that is dysfunctional, computer breakdown or software problem, unresponsive call center, significant delays in customer service - a serious issue whether we are being governed responsibly and in a cost efficient manner.

2.  What do we need to do to improve Rhode Island's economy?

Make our government work, especially deliver responsive, less burden services to the business community and general public.  Also, develop a stronger partnership with Rhode Island's higher education institutions to support local business research & development as well as overall business planning/management & job training.

3.  What is the greatest challenge facing Rhode Island as a state?

Getting the state government's IT infrastructure to work and utilize lower cost vendors for support.  Currently, the IT debacles at Human Services, Taxation, Unemployment, DMV, RIPTA & the Secretary of State's office are costing taxpayer almost a $1 billion or more -- and the systems are broken.

4.  Why are you running for office? What makes you uniquely qualified?

“I offer the people of District 26 a thirty year record of working with diverse communities to identify common ground and bring people together to address community challenges without regard for partisan, political agendas,” said Marzullo, who retired last year after 31 years as Director of the Corporation for National Service’s Rhode Island office.

Marzullo pledged to focus his legislative efforts on school safety, water quality, college affordability and access, and local small business development and job creation.

Marzullo also decried the political gamesmanship and partisan bickering between House Democrats and Republicans.

“The House is mired in power politics and insider dealing, and is wholly unresponsive to the real world needs of working Rhode Island families,” he said.

“Democrats are indifferent to the ethical standards necessary for open and efficient government, while Republicans are more committed to scoring points with the talk radio crowd than advancing a coherent public policy agenda,” he continued.

5. Who is your inspiration?

The late John H. Chafee -- former Governor, Secretary of Navy, & US Senator.  Senator Chafee was a true statesman - who pursued common ground with both political parties in order to accomplish & improve the community's public interest.
