ACLU Pushes for Court Hearing Tuesday for RI Ballot Signature Requirement Lawsuit

The ACLU of RI has announced a hearing is scheduled for Tuesday on their challenge to the state's signature requirement for candidates for ballot placement, in light of COVID-19 restrictions.

A court hearing is scheduled for 3:30 PM today in the ACLU of Rhode Island's federal lawsuit challenging the state law's "wet signature" ballot requirements for candidates in light of the Covid-19 pandemic.

ACLU of RI cooperating attorney Armando Batastini will be urging the court to order a reduction in the number of signatures required for state office (which the General Assembly did last week for federal office) and to allow for the use of an electronic signature process.
