NEW: Butler Announces Candidacy for Providence City Council

Patrick Butler has announced his candidacy for Providence City Council, Ward 5.

Butler served as the city councilperson for Ward 5 from 1999 to 2006. Michael Solomon is the current Councilman of Ward 5.

“Everything I know, everything I care about is right here in this community, and I want to protect that,” said Butler. “These are challenging times for the City of Providence, and we need a strong voice on the City Council, someone who listens to people and gets things done for our neighborhood.”

“I want to be that voice, fighting to make sure people have the kind of opportunity I had - to grow up in this special place and see my children get their start here,” Butler continued.

About Butler

Butler was born and raised in Elmhurst, and currently serves as a Deputy Director of Constituent Services for the Rhode Island Senate. He is also co-owner of Butler & Sons Plumbing and Heating, Inc.

Butler is on the board at St. Pius V School and the Rhode Island Convention Center Authority, and coaches girls softball for the Mount Pleasant Little League. He is a former president of the Elmhurst Little League. He previously served as a board member of the Nickerson Community Center and the House of Compassion.

“With a new Mayor coming into office and new faces on the Providence City Council, it will help our neighborhood to have an experienced person fighting for us in City Hall,” said Butler. “I hope to have the opportunity to provide the leadership we need and look forward to asking my neighbors for their support in the weeks ahead.”
