NEW: Doherty Trails Cicilline in Latest Poll

Republican Congressional candidate Brendan Doherty trails incumbent Democrat David Cicilline by six percentage points, according to the latest WPRI poll.

The numbers reflect a 21-point swing from a February poll, which had Doherty ahead by 15-percentage points.

The poll, which asked 501 likely voters across the two Congressional districts (250 in the 1st District), has Cicilline out in front at 44 percent with Doherty receiving 38 percent. Independent candidate David Vogel had six percent. Doherty had 49 percent support in the February poll.

Still, the poll didn’t present entirely good news for Cicilline. 39.5 percent of voters still believe the Congressman is doing a poor job in Washington while just 20.2 percent have a negative view of Doherty.

The WPRI survey also found that 43.7 percent of voters would vote out every member of the General Assembly if given the option and that over 56 percent of voters support same-sex marriage. Meanwhile, a whopping 59.7 percent of voters believe the state is heading in the wrong direction
