NEW: Ed Pacheco Endorses Guillame De Ramel For Secretary of State

Guillaume De Ramel
Ed Pacheco, the former Democratic Party Chairman today endorsed Aquidneck Island businessman Guillaume De Ramel as candidate for Secretary of State. Chairman Pacheco, who considered a run for Secretary of State before withdrawing from the race in October, served in the Rhode Island General Assembly representing Burrillville and Glocester from 2005-2011 and as chair of the Rhode Island Democratic Party from 2010-2013.

“Rhode Island voters deserve to have their voices heard without discrimination or barriers to exercising their right to vote. The next Secretary of State must look at innovative ways to improve civic participation while strengthening the integrity of our elections,” said Pacheco. “I believe that Guillaume De Ramel is the right person for the job. I look forward to working with him during his campaign and beyond to improve our state.”

Chairman Pacheco’s endorsement today follows last week’s announcement that eleven members of the Providence City Council are supporting Guillaume’s campaign.

“In the past, Chairman Pacheco and I worked together introducing legislation (below) allowing teenagers to pre-register to vote,” said Guillaume. “Today, thanks to his leadership, that law is part of our civic fabric and I am sincerely honored to call him a supporter. Ed’s deep knowledge of Rhode Island and our party, in addition to the nuts and bolts of campaigning, will serve me well as a candidate and hopefully as Rhode Island’s next Secretary of State.”

Current Secretary of State, A. Ralph Mollis, is term-limited from seeking re-election to the same office in 2014.
