NEW: Igliozzi Won't Quit as Finance Chairman of City Council

The chairman of the Providence City Council Finance committee will not resign from his post after all.

John Igliozzi, the Councilman who came under fire several weeks ago after he and a colleague proposed changes to the city’s landmark pension reform plan just days after voting in favor of the ordinance, took to the airwaves this afternoon to announce that he has changed his mind about stepping away from the position.

During an interview with a local radio host, Igliozzi acknowledged that he received pressure from Council leadership to step down, but after hearing from some of his colleagues and constituents, he decided against resigning.

Igliozzi was expected to step down on July 1.

Igliozzi’s announcement comes two days after a resolution asking him to remain on as chairman was pulled from tonight's Council meeting agenda.
