NEW: John Robitaille will Not Run for Governor in 2014

Former Gubernatorial candidate John Robitaille has decided not to run for the state’s top job in 2014, the Republican told 920 WHJJ radio host Helen Glover.

Robitaille confirmed his decision on Twitter.

“To my friends & supporters, I will not be a candidate for Governor of RI in 2014,” Robitaille tweeted. “It was a difficult decision but its the right one for me.”

Robitaille finished second in a four-way race in 2010, ahead of Democratic nominee Frank Caprio and Moderate Party candidate Ken Block, but behind Governor Lincoln Chafee.

The Republican’s decision not to run will likely set off speculation that popular Cranston Mayor Allan Fung may run for the office.
