Leading RI Progressive Drops Twitter Over Infighting Among Left

Democrat Aaron Regunberg’s comments on social media come days following the Democratic primary for Senate District 3 won by Sam Zurier, in which the two progressive candidates — Geena Pham and Bret Jacob — finished second and third respectively.
“Twitter fights are the pits, right? I'm getting distracted from my actual work on climate liability litigation. So taking the app off my phone!” Regunberg Tweeted on Thursday.

While Zurier won with over 1,200 votes, together, Pham and Jacob combined for nearly 1,900 in the unofficial count.
And as GoLocalProv reported, top fundraiser Hilary Levey Friedman — who had the backing of the AFL-CIO, the Providence Firefighters Union, SEIU, and just about every other major Democratic machine political apparatus and she finished with just 613 votes — or 15% of the vote.

Regunberg, a former State Representative, has been one of the most prominent progressive voices in the state.
In 2018, Regunberg was just 2,466 votes short of being Rhode Island Governor, after he lost to Dan McKee in the Democratic primary for Lt. Governor.
McKee was sworn in as Governor this year succeeding Gina Raimondo, who was tapped to serve as President Joe Biden's Secretary of Commerce.
The 2018 Lt. Governor's race in Rhode Island had garnered national attention — CNN called it one of the top 9 Democratic primaries to watch nationally.
