Levey Friedman, Head of RI NOW & East Side Resident, "Exploring General Assembly Run"

“For the past several years in my capacity as President of the Rhode Island chapter of the National Organization for Women I have been advocating at the State House for legislation to end discrimination and promote equality and equity in our state," said Levey Friedman.
I was proud to be part of the coalitions that led to the passage of landmark legislation, like 2019’s Reproductive Privacy Act and 2020’s Uniform Parentage Act, and now I am ready to step up and represent the East Side at the State House,” she added.

“I’m exploring running for the General Assembly because I know we need people representing us in ‘the arena’ who are willing to do the hard work of pursuing justice," said Levey Friedman, who said her academic and professional background "allows her to listen to different points of view and collaborate with others to develop a plan to progress forward."
Because of redistricting, Levey Friedman said the exact office and district she will seek is "undeclared at this time."
Currently, she lives on Stimson Avenue near the Wheeler School -- which are now in Representative Edith Ajello and Senator Gayle Goldin's districts.
"I have the utmost respect for my current Representative and Senator, but as we await the results of the Census, I want to be ready," she said. "I plan to be out this spring and summer knocking on doors to hear directly from East Siders what issues matter to them and which direction they would like to see our community move.”
