Lombardi Tells GoLocal He is Considering Run for Providence Mayor

State Representative John Lombardi is considering a run for Mayor of Providence in 2018.

"Mayor [Jorge] Elorza is not communicating well, not getting his message across," said Lombardi. "I'm considering running in the next election."

Lombardi, who served as the acting mayor for the city as City Council President when then-Mayor Buddy Cianci went to jail in 2002 until David Cicilline took office in 2003, ran for the spot in 2010, finishing second in the Democratic primary to Angel Taveras.

He was elected to the Rhode Island House of Representatives in District 8 in 2012 and again in 2014.

Lombardi, who is currently a municipal court judge in Providence, said he would have to step down from the post if he ran.

"Again, I'm seriously thinking about it," said Lombardi.
