RI Progressive Democrats, Bolstered by Primary Wins, Make Case for 100% Clean Energy Initiative

David Morales, one of the progressive victors in the RI Democratic primary.
The Rhode Island Progressive Democrats of America are saying they have a bolstered case for their 100% Clean Energy by 2030 Initiative, after big wins by progressives in the recent Democratic primary.

RIPDA pointed out victories by Jonathon Acosta, Alana DiMario, Michelle McGaw, Cynthia Mendes, and David Morales.

Ten senators and a dozen representatives have given their backing to the plan, according to RIPDA, and after the general election in November, RIPDA says "those numbers will increase."

RIPDA Statment of Support

RIPDA released the following statement on Tuesday.

"The 100% Clean Energy by 2030 initiative will bring new business and manufacturing, create new jobs with living wages, generate new economic activity and opportunities, and invest in a better future for every person in Rhode Island, and there’s no reason every legislator can’t sign on.

The initiative will bring prosperity to Rhode Island by building a new, statewide clean energy system. Through public/private partnerships, energy profits will be returned to citizens and municipalities, and Rhode Island will thrive as a clean energy producer.

It’s a model that every clean energy project put forward by Rhode Island and its cities should adopt to start building and strengthening our economy.

Rhode Island doesn’t have a strong economic engine to power through recessions, and once again in 2020, we’re being backed into an economic corner, and our public officials are being pushed into cutting the services and support that businesses and citizens need.

Clean energy can be the economic engine that keeps us going and protects us from the bad economic decisions made outside our state that hurt us here at home. We don’t have to surrender or lose control.

Congratulations to Alana, Cynthia, David, Jonathon, and Michelle, and thank you to everyone who’s working to build a stronger and more robust Rhode Island.

We deserve a better Rhode Island."
