While Rhode Island has been able to pass key legislation to codify Roe v. Wade, there’s still a lot more that we need to do in order to protect the rights of Rhode Islanders.
2. What do we need to do to improve Rhode Island's economy?
The way to improve Rhode Island’s economy is to lift our most vulnerable citizens out of poverty. Basic needs have to be met, wages need to be increased, and we have to make it easier for folks to open up new businesses in the state.
3. What is the greatest challenge facing Rhode Island as a state?
Rhode Island still struggles with insider politics, and it’s impeding our progress. We have people getting elected for the title, not to actually do the work. We need better representation; we need people at the State House who truly represent Rhode Islanders and who are in it for the right reasons. We need everyday working people running for office and bringing fresh perspectives and ideas.
4. Why are you running for office? What makes you uniquely qualified?
I’m running for office because District 42 deserves dedicated, reliable representation. I know I can do a better job. What makes me uniquely qualified is my experience with policy and advocacy. I have years of experience in policy and advocacy, including working on legislation that was ultimately passed. Being a social worker gives me a unique perspective and I bring a lot of skills to the table. I know exactly what I’m signing up for, and I’m qualified and ready for the job.
5. Who is your inspiration?
I really admire my dad. He has never stopped believing in me and he’s the reason I went into social work. He taught me the value of giving back to the community and the importance of standing up for what’s right. I hope that I can accomplish as much for my community as he has for his.
