Poll Shows Caprio Has Big Obstacles to Regain General Treasurer

Frank Caprio, only supported by 29% of Democrats
Former General Treasurer and the Democratic nominee for Governor in 2010 does not seem to be very popular with Democrats these days. Even thought he has dominated Rhode Island politics for decades since he was first elected to office in 1990, Frank Caprio could not tally 1/3 of the Democratic primary vote to regain his old office, according to a new poll.

The poll by Democratic pollster Joe Fleming shows that Caprio's popularity has plummeted. In 2006, Caprio won 73% of the popular vote statewide, but in the WPRI-12 Poll conducted Fleming, Caprio only garners 29% against two political upstarts.

For Caprio, who made news in 2010 as a Democratic candidate for Governor in 2010, when he told President Obama to "shove it." The infamous statement made news around the world.

In the poll, two fairly unknown candidates scored in striking distance - Seth Magaziner (11%) and Ernie Almonte (9%). The good news for both Almonte and Magaziner who are mostly unknown to the electorate, they are within in striking distance of the well-known and well-funded Caprio.

According to campaign finance reports, Caprio has spent more than $4 million dollars in the past decade. Both Almonte and Magaziner are running for office for the first time.
