Providence City Council: 20 Who Made a Difference in 2020

Calls by some to defund the police. Interfering with the police. Anti-LGBTQIA comments. Firing personal insults at one another.

Those are some of the most notable milestones of this year's city council all during a pandemic, economic recession and massive unemployment.

While Providence businesses are closing by the dozens, the city is scarred with graffiti, and many are facing evictions, the City Council passed absurd resolutions and too often acted like petulant adolescents.

They just brought on their 6th chief of staff in three years. Not exactly a demonstration of the most stable group.

Did we mention their lack of outrage or too often even an utterance about riots, the massive number of murders in the second half of the year, or their lack of action relating to the ongoing Providence pension fund problems.

The group fights over meaningless titles while ignoring fighting for constituents.

It is time to rethink the 15 ward structure. 

At least there are term limits.
