Rhode Island Officials React to Attempted Assassination of Trump

Rhode Island Republican Party Chairman Joe Powers issued a strong condemnation of the recent attack on Trump. In his statement, Powers said this event highlighted the continuous efforts to undermine the former president through various means, including impeachment, indictments, attempts to jail him, and now an attempted assassination.
"The relentless attacks on President Trump have reached a new and horrifying low with this recent attempt on his life," said Chairman Joe Powers. "They have impeached him, indicted him, and tried to jail him. Now, they have resorted to an attempted assassination. It makes you want to ask, what are they so afraid of?"

U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) posted to X, “There is absolutely no place for political violence in a democracy. As we wait to learn more about what happened, I wish the former president a fast recovery and appreciate law enforcement’s quick response. I will be keeping the victims and their families in my prayers.”
Republican United States Senate candidate Raymond T. McKay released the following statement regarding the attempt on the life of former Trump at a political rally today in Butler, Pennsylvania.
“I fully condemn the attempted assassination of President Donald Trump. While Americans may have political differences, any violence against our leaders and those who seek to lead this nation is not a solution,” said McKay.
"In a story that is still unfolding, reports from the scene say one spectator was killed and two were critically injured. “I extend my deepest condolences to the loved ones of the innocent bystander struck down by the shooter, and send prayers for swift and full recovery to the injured,” McKay said. Reports add the shooter was also killed on the scene," added McKay.
He called for Democrats and Republicans to come together to condemn “this heinous act and cowardly attack on the sovereignty of the nation.”
McKay concluded, “I call on all Americans to pray for President Trump, and to pray for the nation, that we search inside ourselves to be better than what we saw today.”
U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo, a former governor of RI, posted to social media, "No matter the divisions that run through our nation, we must come together with a clear and unequivocal message: there is no room for political violence. My thoughts are with former President Trump and those impacted—and I'm grateful for the swift response from the Secret Service."
Governor Dan McKee posted to X, “Political violence of any kind is abhorrent and inexcusable. Praying for the safety of former President Trump and all those at the rally in Pennsylvania today.”
