Former Democratic Congressman David Cicilline will be headlining a Democratic Party fundraiser later this week despite his new role as the President and CEO of the not-for-profit Rhode Island Foundation.

In February, Cicilline announced that he was stepping down from his seat in Congress to take over the position as the head of the Rhode Island Foundation and collect a salary of $650,000 for the group dedicated to supporting those in need. Cicilline officially resigned his office on June 1.

The upcoming political partisan fundraiser offers two price options for donors — $125 for “friends” and $1,000 for “supporters.”

According to the promotion of the event, it is titled “True Blue Celebration Honoring David N. Cicilline.”

"Please join us for an event Honoring David N. Cicilline at Bally's Twin River from 6:00 pm-9:00 pm on November 10th, 2023, with a cash bar," state the organizers.

The funds raised are to benefit the Rhode Island Democratic Party.

At time of publication, the Rhode Island Foundation did not respond to questions if the head of the foundation participating in partisan politics was appropriate.

GoLocal asked the Rhode Island Foundation:

- Is it appropriate for members of the leadership of the Rhode Island Foundation to participate in partisan political events?

- Is there any policy for staff? (if so, could you share it).

- Do you think Cicilline's participation in the Democratic fundraiser raises concerns that he is using the foundation as a political platform?

- Could this type of high-profile political fundraising alienate non-political donors?
