Sen. Brown: 'Plenty of blame to go around'

Senator Scott Brown yesterday conceded that Republicans deserve a share of the blame for the bad state of the economy—but maintained that Republicans, not Democrats, would be more effective in dealing with the deficit, over-spending, and the poor business climate.

Brown, a Massachusetts Republican, spoke with GoLocalProv during a campaign stop in Lincoln, on behalf of Republican Congressional candidate John Loughlin. “There’s plenty of blame to go around here, but it’s also time to draw a line in the sand and get good people down there and that’s what John is,” Brown said.

He said Loughlin would be a “check and balance” on the three other Democrats in Rhode Island’s Congressional delegation. “You already have a good contingent of Democrats and you can send one Republican—just one—and he’s the guy to do it,” Brown said.

He added: “This election is going to come down to what the people of Rhode Island want, not what I want, or the President wants or anyone else wants. And if they want someone who is going to be battling for them on a daily basis on the overspending, over-taxation, and over-regulating and trying to get a handle on this 11.5 percent unemployment rate you’ve got here, then he’s the guy to do it.”

Loughlin Dismisses Social Security 'Scare'

In an interview, Loughlin dismissed criticisms from his Democratic opponent David Cicilline that he wants to privatize Social Security. He said Cicilline was trying to distract voters from his record and “scare seniors.” Asked if he planned on running campaign ads countering what Cicilline said, Loughlin said he is instead focusing on the core message of his campaign—job creation.
