Senate Votes Down E-verify Bill

The Rhode Island Senate President is denying that she blocked a bill that would require 16,000 employers in the state to use the federal E-verify system to confirm their workers are legal immigrants, according to 630 WPRO, a GoLocalProv media partner.

Teresa Paiva-Weed told WPRO that she had the bill tabled as a procedural matter. The bill’s sponsor Senator Marc Cote, a Woonsocket Democrat, has accused Paiva-Weed of squashing the legislation.
