Shekarchi: "If Any State Representative Committed Federal Crimes, House Will Act Swiftly"

Speaker Joe Shekarchi
Rhode Island Speaker of the House Joseph Shekarchi said Sunday that if any House members "committed federal crimes" in the acts of domestic terrorism at the United States Capitol this week, that the House would "act swiftly and decisively."

His statement comes after Rhode Island General Treasurer Seth Magaziner called on State Representative Justin Price to resign his seat in the General Assembly -- and the GOP lawmaker fired back calling on the Magaziner family to “come clean” on its ties to the dead convicted sexual predator Jeffrey Epstein.

Price was reportedly in Washington, DC this week on Wednesday at the Capitol -- and according to Ian Donnis of The Public's Radio, blamed the terrorist events not on Trump supporters, but on Antifa.

Shekarchi Statement

"The acts of domestic terrorism in Washington, D.C. last Wednesday, aimed at overturning the Presidential election, were treasonous, illegal, and despicable," said Shekarchi.

"The U.S. Attorney for Rhode Island has vowed to investigate and prosecute to the fullest extent of the law anyone who traveled from Rhode Island to commit federal crimes at our nation's Capitol," he said.

"If any state representative committed such crimes, the House of Representatives will act swiftly and decisively to the fullest extent possible under Article VI, Section 7 of the Rhode Island Constitution," Shekarchi added. "Let’s not forget that five Americans died on that tragic day."
