Shekarchi Schedules First JCLS Hearing in More than a Decade

Speaker of the House Joe Shekarchi has scheduled the Joint Committee on Legislative Services to hold a public hearing this coming week.

It is the first hearing of the committee in more than a decade— House and Senate Democratic leadership repeatedly refused to hold public hearings.

The JCLS dictates the spending of about $50 million in taxpayer monies for the activities of the legislative branch.

The committee will hold the hearing on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at 4:00 PM in Room 135 - State House.

A GoLocal investigation uncovered more than $200,000 in legal fees was spent to block a lawsuit to force the JCLS to hold public hearings.
