The Big Issues Facing the RI State House in 2019

Coming off a tumultuous 2018 campaign cycle, the State House is settling into a new legislative session.

The past two years have been rocked by political and personal animosity between the big three — Governor Gina Raimondo, Speaker of the House Nick Mattiello and Senate President Dominick Ruggerio.

The three are facing a number of complex issues including an unbalanced budget and a range of social issues that are expected to be divisive.

Raimondo had no praise for her legislative partners in her second inaugural address barely mentioning Mattiello and Ruggerio -- only in the perfunctory introduction.

GoLocal has identified the big issues facing the decision-makers at the State House.
