Fung Looks to Reform Tax Structure
Republican candidate for Governor Allan Fung reacted to Rhode Island’s ranking as number one among the ten least tax-friendly states for retirees in the United States, according to Kiplinger Publications.
“The current tax system imposes an unsustainable burden on the small businesses and working families of Rhode Island, but the good news is that we have a plan to fix it,” declared Fung. “On day one of a Fung Administration, we will declare Rhode Island ‘Open for Business’ and tax reform is a key component of my Open for Business plan. To start, I will work with the General Assembly to lower the sales tax, which will help to keep consumers from leaving the state and spending their money elsewhere. I will also push to continue estate tax reform to give retirees a reason to stay. By reforming our tax system, we will make Rhode Island more attractive for businesses and help to create more economic opportunity for all our residents.”
Gorbea Adds To Campaign Team
Democratic candidate for Secretary of State, Nellie Gorbea has hired Steve Gerencser as her Senior Strategist.
“Nellie Gorbea is an exceptionally impressive leader who will bring real and meaningful change to Rhode Island,” said Steve Gerencser. “I am excited to be a part of the team that will make history by electing the first Latino to serve statewide in Rhode Island and in New England.”
Defenders of Animals Endorses Cianci
Independent candidate for Providence Mayor Vincent A. Cianci, Jr. has been endorsed by Defenders of Animals, a Providence-based organization whose mission is to defend the inalienable rights of both companion animals and wildlife through education, legal, and legislative activism.
Cianci said, “If elected, I will look forward to working closely with Dennis Tabella and the volunteers at Defenders of Animals to ensure that the Providence Animal Control Center is properly resourced and staffed to care for its animal visitors in the most humane way possible. In this day and age, there is no reason to euthanize adoptable animals. I will work to make Providence Animal Control a no kill shelter by fostering partnerships with rescue organizations and volunteers, implementing a comprehensive adoption program, and investing in ways to educate the general public about the proper care of pets.”
Rhode Island Laborers Endorse Magaziner
Democratic candidate for Treasurer Seth Magaziner has received the endorsement of the Rhode Island Laborers’ District Council (RILDC).
"The Rhode Island Laborers' District Council is proud to support a candidate with working class values,” said Michael F. Sabitoni, Business Manager for the RILDC, "Seth Magaziner has promised to focus on initiatives to put Rhode Islanders back to work and make our state competitive in the 21st century economy.
