Zurier Challenges Recent Council Leadership Caucus

In a letter to Aponte on September 22, Zurier requested that the September 21 Providence City Council Democratic Caucus be rescheduled.

Zurier cited the inaccurate information that was sent to different council members as the reason for his request.

On September 24, Zurier wrote another letter to Aponte after he failed to receive a response.

Zurier requested the caucus take place after the General Election in November.

Following Buddy Cianci's endorsements Tuesday by the Providence police union and firefighters, Magaziner and Almonte have also up picked endorsements.

Ernie Almonte Endorsed by R.I. State Association of Fire Fighters and R.I. Brotherhood of Correctional Officers

Harrop on Poll

Republican candidate for Mayor Dr. Harrop has responded to the recent WPRI/ProJo poll that showed Cianci in the lead of the Mayoral race.

Regulate RI Cites News Numbers

Regulate RI is citing a new article as evidence for marijuana legalization

The study demonstrates that the nationwide legalization would bring in more than $3 billion in state and local tax revenue annually.

On their Facebook page, Regulate RI wrote, "$3 billion that's currently being used to fund organized crime. There are a lot better things we could do with all that money like improve our schools, fix our crumbling infrastructure, and provide adequate treatment and recovery services for families struggling with mental illness and substance dependence."

Paiva Weed's New FB Page

RI Senate President Paiva Weed has unveiled her new Facebook page.

Paiva's first post said, "Welcome to my Facebook page! I'll be adding pictures and information from the campaign as often as possible so come back soon! P.S. The bridge photo is by a great local photographer and my yard sign hangs in a wonderful wooden frame at the 5th Ward house of some very longtime friends."

Reed Announces Grant for Family Leave Study

Senator Jack Reed has announced that the U.S. Department of Labor is awarding $161,417 to the Rhode Island Department of Labor and Training (DLT) to fund a feasibility study on paid family leave. 

DLT will use the federal funds to study the effectiveness of the Rhode Island Temporary Caregiver Insurance Program and its benefits for Rhode Islanders.

RI Voter Guide Now Available

The RI voter handbook for the 2014 General Election has been released.

Voters will now be asked for a photo ID at the polls.
