2026 FIFA World Cup to be Played in North America, Boston on Shortlist of Host Cities

The 2026 Fifa World Cup will be played in North America
The FIFA World Cup will be played in North America for the first time since 1994.

A combined bid from the United States, Mexico, and Canada won the hosting rights for the 2026 FIFA World Cup over Morocco by a vote of 134-65.

“The U.S. together with Mexico and Canada, just got the World Cup. Congratulations - a great deal of hard work,” wrote President Donald Trump on Twitter following the announcement.

The North America bid included a pledge of record crowds, record revenues, and a record $11 billion in profits for FIFA.

World Cup in North America

The World Cup coming to North America will mark the first time that the tournament will be hosted by three countries.

The tournament includes a total of 48 teams, and 80 matches, ten of which will be held in Canada, ten in Mexico and 60 in the United States, including the final match, which will be played at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

Other U.S. cities on the shortlist to host games include Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Nashville, Cincinnati, Atlanta, Orlando, Miami, Kansas City, Dallas, Houston, Denver, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle.

Mexico’s representatives are Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Monterrey. Toronto, Montreal, and Edmonton are on Canada’s list.
