Leading by seven at the half, the Blue Devils would open the second half on an 8-2 run sparked by five straight points from Luke Kennard to take a 42-28 lead.

Kennard led all scorers with 24 points in the game. Coach Danny Hurley seemed unable to set match-ups and as usual was arguing previous plays with officials rather than setting the next play. URI was zero for five coming out of time outs.

While Duke went on their run, the Rams struggled to make a shot from the field. At the under 16 minute time out in the second half, URI had only made two field goals going back to 4:09 of the first half.

The Rams would not get closer than 10 points the rest of the way, and that came with less than a minute to play in the game.

Rams Fall Behind Early

Like against Cincinnati, the Rams got off to another slow start, turning the ball over six times in the first eight minutes of the game.

Duke would lead by as much as 15-6 with ten minutes to play before the Rams would climb back into the game.

Two free throws by E.C. Matthews would cut URI's deficit to just one, 15-14, with 7:27 to play in the half. However, the theme of the first half was that URI was never able to grab the lead, or even pull into a tie. They got to within one point on multiple occasions but could not get over the hump.

The Rams would close the first half by settling for jump shots and turning the ball over, sparking the Blue Devils to a 6-0 run, capped off by a Matt Jones tip in.

The Rams would trail 34-26 at the half.

The Stats

The Rams were led by Jared Terrell, who poured in 22 points on 8 of 15 shooting from the field, while Hassan Martin added 15 points, six rebounds and five blocked shots.

Following his heroics against Cincinnati, Matthews struggled for the first time this season, scoring only nine points on 3 of 7 shooting from the field.

Next up

The Rams return to action on Friday, November 25 when they host Belmont at the Ryan Center.

Game time is set for 7 p.m.
