An artist in Indiana has agreed to remove the tattoos on a mural of Boston Celtics legend Larry Bird, per his request.

Artist Jules Muck recreated Bird’s 1977 Sports Illustrated cover with one exception - Bird is covered in tattoos on his face, arms, and neck.

According to the Indianapolis Star, Bird, through his attorney, requested that Muck remove the tattoos from the painting.

"Larry's position is he has elevated himself from where he began to where he is now through a lot of hard work. He has developed a brand that is marketable and he needs to protect that brand. The mural, as originally painted, was a departure from that brand,” said Bird’s lawyer Gary Sallee to the Star.

The Star reported on Wednesday morning that Muck agreed to remove all the tattoos except the “INDIANA” on Bird’s arm.

Bird was drafted sixth overall by the Celtics in 1978 and played 13 seasons in Boston. He led the Celtics to three NBA Championships and five NBA Finals appearances.

He was a 12-time all-star and was named league MVP three straight years from 1984 to 1986.

The Celtics retired his #33 jersey in 1993.
