Benches Clear, Scuffle Ensues Between Red Sox and Rays

Mired in a 10-game losing streak, the Boston Red Sox saw their frustrations boil over in the series finale in Tampa Bay Sunday.

Rays' shortstop Yunel Escobar stole third base with 2 outs in the bottom of the 7th inning.  With Tampa Bay nursing a 5-run lead, the Red Sox dugout (located on the 3rd base side) threw a hissy fit, as Escobar had violated one of baseball's unwritten rules about not adding insult to injury for the irritable Red Sox.

Escobar angrily chirped back at the dugout, and at that point Jonny Gomes had arrived from left field to initiate what erupted into a bench clearing skirmish between the division rivals.  When the dust finally settled, Escobar, Gomes, and the Rays' Sean Rodriguez were all ejected.
