Benintendi's 3 RBIs Lead Red Sox Past A's 6-2

Andrew Benintendi had three hits and three RBI’s as the Boston Red Sox defeated the Oakland A’s 6-2 on Thursday at Fenway Park.

Red Sox pitcher Drew Pomeranz allowed just one run over six innings to pick up his 16th win of the season.

With the win, the Red Sox improve to 83-63 on the season. They maintain a three-game lead over the Yankees in the AL East.

Red Sox Pull Away Late

With the game tied at 1 in the bottom of the sixth, Benintendi hit a double to center field to score Dustin Pedroia and give the Red So a 2-1 lead.

Mitch Moreland then followed up with a double of his own to score Benintendi and give the Red Sox a 3-1 lead.

In the bottom of the 7th, Benintendi hit a two-run single to give the Red Sox a 6-2 lead. Earlier in the inning, Pedroia hit a sacrifice fly to score Rafael Devers.

The A’s would get one run back in the 8th, but would not get any closer.

Next up

The Red Sox return to action Friday, September 15 when they visit the Tampa Bay Rays.

The pitching matchup is Boston’s Chris Sale against Matt Andriese.

First pitch is set for 7 p.m.
