Bomb Squad - Largest Baseball Facility Opens on Sunday

South County will be home to the largest indoor baseball facility – the Bomb Squad Baseball Company. The new facility located at the Palisades Mill Complex Wakefield, RI, features 13,000 square foot and is decribed as the most expansive indoor playground for baseball and softball in the region.

The grand opening will be held Sunday, November 6th.

The facility features eight batting cages, three pitching cages with five real compacted clay mounds and an area to practice game-time situations.

The Wakefield facility will feature clinics, lessons and conditioning and the staff, which is comprised entirely of former Division I players and coaches, is headed by Steve Breitbach, a former long time top assistant and recruiter at the University of Rhode Island.

Breitbach runs the facility along with Phil Davidson, the former standout pitcher at North Carolina State, RI Gatorade Player of the Year and two-time All-Stater at Toll Gate High. Davidson also runs the elite RI Rebels AAU program out of the Bomb Squad. In the last four years, more than 60 Rebels players have gone on to play at the college level.

“Today, there is no offseason,” said Davidson. “Players of all levels want to be able to work on pitching, hitting and defense all year round. They don’t want to lose what they gained all summer in the harsh winters in New England. Their hands are so cold and numb they can’t grip a bat or throw a baseball. This indoor facility is state-of-the-art and our experienced staff is trained to work with players of all levels.”

In addition to having a chance to take a swing in a new batting cage or practice throwing a curve ball from a clay mound, a host of activities and demonstrations are planned for Sunday’s grand opening celebration.

Highlights include:

• The Mizuno trailer and representatives will be on hand to offer those in attendance the opportunity to have their gloves steamed, softened, molded and professionally shaped. Mizuno will also be giving away a steam-molded glove.
• South County Sports Performance will showcase its unique Cognitive Trainer, a machine used weekly by several members of the New England Patriots, including Tom Brady. The Cognitive Trainer improves athletic performance by increasing player situational awareness and decreasing response time during play. The data can be used for player profiling and post-injury return to play timing assessment.
• Speed and agility workout demonstrations by South County Sports Performance.
• Wiffleball games, beginning at 3 p.m.
