BREAKING: Details of Spygate Surface in New ESPN Report

Bill Belichick
Spygate is back, seven years later. According to a new ESPN report, the Patriots cheating in 'Spygate' is worse then what was originally thought and that Roger Goodell's deflategate punishment was a make up for commissioner Roger Goodell.

The report finds that from 2000-2007, the Patriots videotaped the signals of opposing coaches in 40 games. Goodell's fine of $500,000 to Bill Belichick and $250,000 fine of the team and the loss of a first round draft pick was issued before investigators were sent to New England.

Once investigators were sent to New England, they found a library of videotapes which contained opponents signals as well as notes. Notes that were found included diagrams of the Pittsburgh Steelers and the notes that were used in the 2002 AFC Championship game which saw the Patriots win 24-17 and then go on to win the Super Bowl. Roger Goodell however ordered the tapes to be destroyed and the notes to be shredded, which they were inside a Gillette Stadium conference room.

The report says that at least two teams caught the Patriots videotaping signals in 2006 but the league did nothing about it and that many of the owners believed that Goodell had teamed with Belichick and Kraft to sweep this whole thing under the rug.

Deflategate Make up Call

The ESPN report ties spygate into deflategate, stating that the deflategate punishment was to make up for the mistakes made during spygate. The result of deflategate saw Patriots quarterback Tom Brady's four game suspension overturned by New York Federal Court judge Richard Berman.

However, NFL owners across the league view it as "Goodell had the Patriots in his hands and let them go. The league lost again," the report says.

Roger Goodell is now 0-5 in appeals of high profile decisions regarding discipline.

The New England Patriots

The New England Patriots are getting set to host the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday, September 10 in the NFL's season opener. Prior to the game, the Patriots will raise their 2014 Super Bowl championship banner.
