Brown Basketball Adds 6 Players for 2019-20 Season

Brown men’s basketball coach Mike Martin announced the addition of six new players to the 2019-20 roster.

The players include freshmen Braelee Albert, Perry Cowan, Dan Friday,  Carsten Kogelnik and Josh Watts, as well as, junior transfer Noah Meren.

"Our staff is excited to introduce the newest members of our basketball team. We think this class brings many key components that can help us continue to develop into a championship program.  Each young man will have the opportunity to contribute on the floor and combine with a group of returning players that should make all Brown Basketball fans eager for November,” said Martin.

Newcomers

Braelee Albert

Albert is a 6-6 freshman forward from Los Angeles, California.

He is rated as a two-star recruit by Verbal Commits.

Albert is a graduate of Brentwood High School where he was a two-time California Interscholastic Federation Conference Player of the Year, a John Wooden Award recipient, a three-time First Team All CIF, Two-year All-State selection and a Two-time CIF Champion.

 

Perry Cowan

Cowan is a 6-4 freshman guard from Chicago, Illinois.

He is rated as a two-star recruit by Verbal Commits.

Cowan is a graduate of DePaul College Prep where he was a four-time All-Conference selection and two-time All-League selection. He is also a four-time All-State, All-City, and All-Area selection, as well as, being named league MVP after his team placed third in the Chicago Catholic League Tournament. 

 

Dan Friday

Friday is a 6-4 guard from Detroit, Michigan.

He is rated as a two-star recruit by Verbal Commits.

Friday is a graduate of the University of Detroit Jesuit High Schoo, where he was named a First Team Division 1 All-State selection.

He averaged 16.5 points,  6.6 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game as a senior, helping his team advance to the MHSAA Division 1 title game.

 

Carsten Kogelnik

Kogelnik is a 6-6 forward from Bethesda, Maryland.

He is rated as a two-star recruit by Verbal Commits.

Kogelnik is a graduate of DeMatha Catholic High School where he was a two-year team captain.

During Kogelnik’s junior and senior seasons, DeMatha earned a Top 10 National ranking and a WCAC Championship. They also won four straight Maryland Private School Championships

 

Noah Meren

Meren is a 6-5 junior transfer guard from Providence, Rhode Island.

He is rated as a two-star recruit by Verbal Commits. 

Meren is a graduate of Moses Brown and attended Skidmore College for two years.

At Skidmore, he averaged 21.4 points, and 6.6 rebounds last season, earning D3hoops.com All-East Region Second Team.

He was also named the Most Outstanding Player in the Liberty League Tournament.

 

Josh Watts

Watts is a 6-4 freshman guard from Beltsville, Maryland.

He is rated as a two-star recruit by Verbal Commits.

Watts is a graduate of two-time WCAC Champion Gonzaga High School, where he was named team captain during his senior season.

Watts is a two-time Honorable Mention for All-WCAC selection and a DC State Champion.
