Brown Falls To Albany In Preseason NIT

Peter Sullivan graduated from Brown last spring as the school’s 4th all-time leading scorer in the history of the men’s basketball program. He would have been proud of his younger brother Monday night.

Junior guard Matt Sullivan scored a career high 26 points against Albany in opening round action of the Dick’s Sporting Goods NIT Season Tip-Off at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to lift the Bears over the Great Danes as Brown lost 77-68.

The Bears dug themselves an early 14-point hole that they could never quite climb out of. Brown seemed disjointed on both ends of the floor for the first 10 minutes of the game forcing head coach Jesse Agel to burn a few quick timeouts.

Trailing by 12 at the half, the Bears regrouped in the locker room and played a spirited second half of basketball cutting the Albany lead to 5 on two occasions. The Bears had a chance to make it a one possession game when sophomore guard Sean McGonagill ( 17 points, 7 assists)missed the front end of a one-and-one.

Senior Jean Harris finished with 8 pionts and 5 rebounds for the Bears. Junior Stephen Albrecht scored 7 points while Tyler Ponticelli and Andrew McCarthy each added 4.

The loss dropped the Bears’ record to (1-1) on the season. They will play the Manhattan Jaspers today in Syracuse at 4pm. Manhattan was hammered by the Orange 92-56 to drop to (1-1) on the season as well.
