Brown Football Set to Host Harvard Under the Lights on ESPNU

Brown hosts Harvard on Friday night
The Brown Bears football team is set to open up Ivy League action on Friday night when they host the Harvard Crimson under the lights at Brown Stadium.

Brown enters the game with a record of 0-1 after losing to Cal Poly last week, while the Crimson come in off a 36-14 win over San Diego.

“We are looking for improvement after last week and that's something we need to do Friday night. Last week, we got exploited in a few areas and that's something we got to correct this week. Harvard is a big challenge, they are always an elite Ivy League team,” Brown head coach Phil Estes told GoLocalProv.

The game will take place at 7 p.m. and will be televised on ESPNU.

Brown vs Harvard

Friday night’s game will be the 118th meeting all-time between the two programs dating back to 1893.

Harvard has won the last seven games and leads the series 85-30-2.

Brown’s last win in the series came in 2010 when they beat Harvard 29-14 in the first night game ever at Brown Stadium.

Brown Offense

On the offensive side of the ball, the Bears will look to sophomore quarterback Michael McGovern, who will make his second career start.

In his first start last week against Cal Poly, McGovern threw for 312 yards, 249 of which came in the first half.

“I think everything is up, he had an outstanding first half, threw for close to 300 yards, He made some big plays, we are always looking to get five explosive plays in a game he had seven. We are looking to do better in the red zone and make sure we are coming away with 7 points every time down,” said Estes.

McGovern’s weapons include senior tight end Anton Casey, who hauled in six passes for 61 yards last week against Cal Poly.

Sophomore running back Scott Boylan scored Brown’s only touchdown last week on a 26-yard run.

He totaled 47 rushing yards in the game.

Brown Defense

On the defensive side of the ball, the Bears will show off a new look on Friday.

Brown is now playing a 3-4 scheme, as opposed to the 4-3 scheme they played last season.

“I thought regardless of the score we did a good job last week. We gotta get better on the back end, especially at the linebacker and safety position. We are young and going to get better and better with more experience,” said Estes.

The Bears defense is led by senior linebacker Daniel Aidman and defensive end Michael Hoecht, each of whom had 14 tackles last week.

In the secondary, the Bears will rely on senior defensive backs Sebastian Dovi and Jorquel Condomina to lead the way.
