Celtics Select Marcus Smart With 6th Overall Pick in NBA Draft

The Boston Celtics selected Oklahoma State point guard Marcus Smart with the 6th overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft, and they selected Kentucky shooting guard/small forward James Young with the 17th overall pick.

The 6'3" 227-pound Smart averaged 18 points, 4.8 assists, and 2.9 steals per game for OSU last season as a sophomore.  He was the second point guard selected in the draft, with Australian Dante Exum being selected with the 5th overall pick by the Utah Jazz.

The pick could hint that star point guard Rajon Rondo's future with the Celtics is uncertain.  The Celtics could still trade Smart before the end of the draft, but all signs indicate they intend to keep him.

The 6'6" 215 pound Young has a smooth shooting stroke and dynamic athleticism.  He averaged 14.3 points per game last year as a freshman and helped Kentucky reach the National Championship Game.

The Celtics don't have any picks left in the draft, so their night appears to be over.
