Coaching decision at Brown coming soon
Brown University’s new athletic director Jack Hayes is heading down the home stretch in what will be his first big hire on the job. He could decide as soon as Tuesday who the new men’s basketball coach may be.

As GoLocalProv.com reported almost 3 weeks ago, Hayes met with nine different candidates through the week of May 14th. Those who visited the school’s campus for interviews were:
T.J. Sorrentine – Brown interim head coach
Mike Martin – Former Brown player and current Penn assistant coach
Bob Walsh – Former PC assistant and current head coach at Rhode Island College
Doug Stewart – Former Brown player and current Oregon State associate head coach
Tony Newsome – Former Princeton assistant and current associate head coach at Fairfield
Greg Herenda – Former East Carolina, Yale and Holy Cross assistant and current UMass-Lowell head coach
Larry Anderson – MIT head coach
Jay Young – Former New Haven head coach and current Stony Brook assistant coach
Steve Howes – former Good Counsel coach and current head coach at Catholic University
After lengthy interviews with Hayes, multiple members of the Brown athletic department and members of the men’s basketball coaching search committee, the nine now await a phone call from the Brown AD regarding their fate.
While Hayes has not tipped his hand as to which way he might be leaning, sources tell GoLocalProv.com that he will likely make his decision early this week with an announcement by the school said to be soon thereafter.
Those same sources also indicate a select few may have distinguished themselves during the process. However, who those select few coaches are remains a mystery.
Depending upon the source spoken with, one candidate could be the leading candidate for the job while that same candidate is considered a long shot by another source.
This much we do know - the next head coach for the Brown University men’s basketball team will be coming from the above list of candidates and a decision should be made very soon.
