Coronavirus Worries Hit Red Sox, Taiwanese Pitcher Prospect Quarantined in Florida Hotel

Chih-Jung Liu, a Boston Red Sox pitching prospect, has been quarantined over coronavirus fears in Florida after flying in from Taiwan for spring training.

Liu, 20-years-old, is the second Boston player to be quarantined by the team after infielder Tzu-Wei Lin, was quarantined earlier this month.

According to the Daily Mail, Liu was signed to a one-year, $750,000 deal this off-season.

The 20-year-old has been told to stay in his hotel room in order to protect the rest of the team against possible coronavirus despite not having any symptoms of the virus.

On Tuesday, the Centers for Disease Preventional and Control warned about the spread of coronavirus in the U.S.

“It’s not so much of a question of if this will happen anymore but rather more of a question of exactly when this will happen,” Dr. Nancy Messonnier, director of the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases, said at a briefing.
