NEW: Coventry Falls to Houston 3-1 in Opening Game of Little League World Series

Coventry Little League fell to Houston, Texas 3-1 in the opening game of the Little League World Series on Thursday night in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. 

Coventry now faces elimination on Saturday afternoon when they face the team from the Midwest. 

Game time is set for 3 p.m.

Coventry Falls to Houston 

After a rain delay in the middle of the first inning, Coventry took a 1-0 lead when Logan Lama hit a line drive back o the pitcher who made a throwing error to first base.

Jake Mather scored on the play to put Coventry up.

However, Houston would score two runs in the top of the third to take a 2-1 lead.

Their first run came when Ryan Selvaggi hit an RBI triple to score Ethan Goldstein and tie the game at one.

On the very next at-bat, Selvaggi would score on a wild pitch to put Houston up 2-1.

Houston would add to their lead in the top of the sixth when Andy Guy hit an RBI single to score Justin Michaelis.

Coventry was held to just two hits in the game. 

Coventry's Run

Coventry enters the Little League World Series after beating Massachusetts 3-2 in the New England Regional Championship. 

Coventry got to the championship game with a record of 3-1 after beating New Hampshire 6-5 on Friday. 

Rhode Island's only loss came against Pittsfield last week, falling 10-1 on Wednesday.

Prior to that game, Coventry beat both Connecticut and Vermont 10-0.

Throughout their run, they were led by Tommy Turner, who had four hits in those two games, along with three RBIs, while Jake Mather also had four hits and three RBIs.

Against Connecticut, Turner pitched four innings of no-hit ball, while Logan Lama and Mather combined to hold Vermont to just three hits over five innings.
