CVS Classic: Defending Champs Tied for Lead Entering Final Round

Jimmy Walker (putting here) and partner Peter Jocobsen are tied for the lead.
Defending champions Steve Stricker and Bo Van Pelt shot a 9-under-par 62 to claim a share of the lead after the first round of the 2014 CVS Caremark Charity Classic golf tournament.

The duo won the 2013 Charity Classic after shooting a tournament-record 25-under-par over the two day event.  Stricker and Van Pelt have a chance to become the first ever back-to-back champions in the 16-year history of the tournament.

Joining the defending champions at 9-under-par are tournament mainstay Peter Jacobsen and PGA Tour breakout star Jimmy Walker.  See the full leaderboard below.

Amateur Champions

The team of Scott Connolly, John Bowen, David Cesario, and Chris Hurd won the Pepsi Max Shootout, shooting a 13-under-par 59 to win by 5 strokes.

Closest to the Pin

Monday’s Closest-to-the-pin contest was won by Lexi Thompson with 9’ 5” on hole 17, and earned $25,000 for the Brain Injury Association of Rhode Island, the tournament’s charity partner with which she was paired.
