Davis Fired, PC Targeting A Few Coaches? / NFL Greed
The search for a new men’s basketball coach dominates our local sports headlines. PC Athletic Director Bob Driscoll did the expected and fired Keno Davis and his staff on Friday. Apparently assistant coach Chris Driscoll remains on hand for the moment but his fate will likely be determined by whoever the new head coach is.

Word is that Bob Driscoll and PC are adamant about hiring a tough, hard-nosed coach whose team will personify that personality on the floor. It was clearly something lacking with the Friars under Keno Davis. Just who might fit that profile is an interesting question.
The early returns suggest that Fairfield’s Ed Cooley could very much be in the mix when interview invitations are officially extended. Arizona State’s Herb Sendek may also be a name to keep an eye on. Fran Fraschilla? It doesn’t appear that he’s on PC’s radar.

Brown apparently still has the desire to be a teacher of the game and may feel that college kids accept coaching more readily that they do in the pros. Whether or not PC would have an interest in him is a different story.
One thing's for sure. Bob Driscoll won't repeat the same mistake twice and hire a consulting firm to give him names of coaches to talk to. Instead, he will do what he should have done 3 years ago and call on former Big East Commissioner Mike Tranghese for advice which is a very smart move on his part.
NIT FOR U.R.I.?
The Rhody Rams season came to an end last night at the A-10 quarterfinals in Atlantic City. Rhode Island lost to Richmond 55-45. It’s a shame because Rhody may have had a chance at winning the tournament and with it the automatic bid to the NCAA Tourney with all of the upsets at the A-10 Tourney so far. Now URI will have to wait and see if they will be selected for the NIT or one of the other two lesser postseason tournaments.
END OF THE LINE FOR R.I.C.
Bob Walsh’s Anchormen had their season ended last night in the Sweet 16 of the Division 3 NCAA Tournament. Rhode Island College lost to Amherst 78-74. Senior Antone Gray scored 22 in the losing effort.
CELTICS FALL AGAIN!
First they lost to the Clippers at home and now to the 76ers on the road. The Boston Celtics have hit a bit of a bump in the road losing last night in Philly 89-86. Boston now leads Chicago by only a half game for the best record in the East. The Celts host Milwaukee on Sunday.
B’s LOSE AGAIN AS WELL!
Make it 4 losses in a row for the Boston Bruins who dropped a 4-2 game against the Islanders in New York last night. The B’s lead Montreal by just 4 points in the Northeast Division standings and no longer have any games in hand on the Habs.
THE NFL JUST DOESN’T GET IT!
It’s a crying shame that the moron owners and players in the NFL chose yesterday to end labor negotiations and essentially dig their heels in for a long and drawn out labor war.

Do these idiots not know what happened in Japan yesterday? Hundreds, maybe even thousands perished as a result of the devastating earthquake and all the spoiled billionaire owners and millionaire players is think about themselves. Greedy S.O.B.’s!
