Eagles too much for Bryant

The losses are piling up as Bryant University continues its jump to Division I basketball, but the Bulldogs can take solace in the unending improvement shown by their underclassmen.

On an afternoon in which the Bulldogs were overmatched by Boston College, freshmen Alex Francis and Matthew Lee turned in solid efforts with 15 points apiece in a 93-77 loss to the Eagles on Sunday at the Silvio O. Conte Forum.

The Bulldogs (1-9) hung in for the first 10 minutes until Boston College (9-2) broke the game open with a 12-0 run fueled by four consecutive 3-pointers and carried a 17-point lead into the locker room at halftime.

Biko Paris hit six threes and finished with 18 points for Boston College, which has won six consecutive games. Josh Southern scored 18 points on 8-of-9 shooting and Reggie Jackson chipped in with 16 points and nine assists. The Eagles shot 58 percent from the field.

Lee and Francis combined to hit 12 of 25 field-goal attempts for the Bulldogs, who have yet to win a road game this season (their lone win came on a neutral court against Iona on Nov. 16). Bryant has lost six in a row since that aforementioned victory at the World Vision Classic in Cancun.

Fifth-year senior Cecil Gresham, who had led the team in scoring in its last two games entering Sunday, struggled against the Eagles with only seven points on 3-of-5. Frankie Dobbs chipped in with 12 points and shot 3-of-6 from 3-point range for Bryant, which will travel to Michigan on Thursday to face the Wolverines.
