Five Things to Know About Patriots Loss to Seattle

Patriots Bill Belichick
The New England Patriots drop to 1-1 as their comeback Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks was stopped just two yards short of a game-winning touchdown as the game ended.

The Pats lost 35-30 and had to go for a touchdown as Nick Folk had missed an earlier field goal.

Cam Newton in the air and ground put up nearly 450 yards. He was brilliant.

The Patriots trailed by 12 points and rallied for the one play chance to upset Seattle.

The loss was painful, but for Pats fans, the game showed that the team can play with the league's top teams and that Newton’s first game against Miami was no fluke.

Patriots coach Bill Belichick was for the most part upbeat after the game - as much as he is ever upbeat.

“I thought our team competed hard,” Belichick said. “We scored, we covered the kickoff, got the ball back and got it to the one-yard line, and Seattle made a good play, so I give them [Seattle] credit. They deserved to win.”

Here are five things to know about the Patriots performance:

1. Newton Can Throw Too

In game one, Newton ran and ran. Against Seattle, he threw and threw — 30 of 44 for 397 yards with one TD and an interception.

Oh yeah, he was the Patriots leading rusher with 47 yards too.

2. Edelman Bam

Julian Edelman returned to glory and then some. He hauled in 8 receptions for 179 yards.

3. Flight of the Byrd

Damiere Byrd who came to the Pats in the offseason caught 6 for 72 yards.

4. Area of Concern - Defensive Backfield

Russell Wilson threw for 275 yards and 5 touchdowns. The award-winning Patriots secondary looked very mediocre.

The Pats' rush was inconsistent and Wilson broke containment and ran for 38 yards. He was sacked twice.

5. Note of Sadness

James White's father was killed in an auto accident and his mother is in critical condition. He, obviously, was scratched for the game.
