Former Bruins & Boston College Star Jimmy Hayes Dies at 31

Former Boston Bruins and Boston College hockey standout Jimmy Hayes has died at 31.

Hayes won a national championship while at BC and played seven seasons in the National Hockey League. 

BC issued a statement on Hayes’ passing on social media.

"Boston College Hockey is heartbroken over the passing of Jimmy Hayes. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Hayes family," the school said.

The Bruins offered their condolences. 

“The Boston Bruins are heartbroken by the passing of Dorchester native and former Bruin Jimmy Hayes. Our thoughts are with his wife Kristen, his sons Beau and Mac, and the entire Hayes family during this very difficult time,” they said. 

The Chicago Blackhawks, who Hayes started his NHL career with, released a statement Monday saying they were "heartbroken to learn of the passing of Hayes."

"His warm personality made an immediate impact in the locker room and with our fans," the team added.

"We're proud of the memories he made in Chicago, including making his NHL debut in 2011. Sending our thoughts and prayers to his family."
