Former PC Star Ryan Gomes Signs NBA D-League Contract

Former Providence College basketball star Ryan Gomes, 33, is making a return to professional basketball after signing a contract with the NBA D-League, according to reports.

The D-League waiver system will determine which NBA team's affiliate he will play for, however, he is eligible to sign with any NBA team no matter the affiliate.

Starting Wednesday and running through Sunday, the D-League will be hosting their showcase event which will bring in NBA scouts from around the league.

Ryan Gomes as a Pro

Las season, Ryan Gomes played two games for Laboral Kuxta Baskonia of Spain but left the team, reportedly due to a lack of playing time.

In his eight year NBA career, Ryan Gomes made 371 starts while appearing in 487 games after being drafted 50th overall by the Boston Celtics in 2005.

Gomes played for the Celtics, Timberwolves, Clippers and Thunder with his best season coming in 2008-09 where he averaged 13.3 points per game for Minnesota.

Gomes has not played in an NBA game since 2014 where he appeared in five regular season games for the Oklahoma City Thunder

Gomes was traded from the Thunder to the Celtics in a three-team trade involving Courtney Lee on January 7th, 2014. Gomes was part of the Celtics roster for less than a day.

Ryan Gomes graduated Providence in 2005 as the all-time leading scorer with 2,138 points and currently ranks seventh all-time in rebounding with 1,028 boards.

Gomes is one of two players (LaDontae Henton) in program history to score over 2,000 points and pull down over 1,000 rebounds.

Gomes will be inducted into the Providence College Athletics Hall of Fame on February 13th.
