Men's Basketball Coaches: 13 Who Made a Difference in RI in 2013

One of several Rhode Island college basketball coaches who was rewarded with a contract extension in 2013: PC head coach Ed Cooley.
It was a good year to be a men's college basketball coach in Rhode Island. And their schools responded accordingly.

As GoLocal's Scott Cordischi reported in April, "First, Ed Cooley received a raise and had his contract extended by Providence College. Then it was Dan Hurley getting extended by URI....Bryant University announced that it has extended the contract of its men's basketball coach Tim O'Shea through the 2019-2020 season."

Cordischi continued, "If any coach deserved a contract extension following this past season, O'Shea is that guy. He helped lead the Bulldogs to the biggest turnaround in college basketball going from a 2-win team two years ago to a 19-win team in this, Bryant's first season of full eligibility in division one."

In addition, Brown's Mike Martin was named as one of ten finalists for the 2013 Joe B. Hall award, which is presented annually to the top first-year coach in Division I college basketball. Martin guided the Brown men’s basketball team to a 12-14 overall record in his first season as Brown’s basketball head coach, including a 6-6 Ivy League mark that has the Bears in third place in the league standings.

Time will tell how the 2013-2014 season turns out for the promising Rhode Island coaching cadre, but if 2013 is a good indication -- Rhode Island should be seeing great things.
